The elderly Feeding program

The elderly Feeding program

Gathukiini community has hundreds of very old people who are either very poor, sickly or bed ridden. A lot of finances are needed to ensure that they are well fed and sheltered, this has caused their relatives to shy away from taking care of them, while others do not have relatives to look after them.

Consequently, over the years, 35 old bed-ridden people have died among those that we regularly care after. Once per term, the Centre organizes luncheons for the old to meet for fellowship, socialisation, physical exercises, sharing a meal and learning from the bible. They also get some little food – soap, match box, sugar cooking oil, salt, and rice – that they can cook for a day or two.

From time to time we receive clothing and other none food donations which we share with them. Among these old people, there are those who are bed ridden and helpless. For the bed ridden our social workers visit them weekly and takes food to them. They also pray together and read the scriptures.
